Monterosso

Monterosso is the largest of the Cinque Terre villages and the only one with expansive sandy beaches. Its charming old town is filled with narrow alleys, lemon groves, and traditional trattorias serving fresh anchovies, a local specialty. The medieval Church of San Giovanni Battista and the Statue of the Giant overlooking the sea are iconic landmarks. Monterosso is perfect for travelers seeking relaxation by the sea while exploring history and local culture.

Often described as the most picturesque of the five, Vernazza is famous for its colorful waterfront, natural harbor, and dramatic cliffs. At its heart stands Doria Castle, once built to defend against pirates, now offering breathtaking views of the coastline. With lively piazzas, charming cafés, and scenic fishing boats lining the shore, Vernazza captures the essence of authentic Italian coastal life.

Corniglia

Corniglia is the only village perched high on a cliff, about 100 meters above sea level, and accessible via the famous Lardarina staircase of nearly 400 steps (or shuttle). Surrounded by terraced vineyards, it offers some of the most stunning panoramic views in Cinque Terre. Known for its quiet atmosphere, Corniglia feels more intimate and less touristy, making it ideal for those who want to experience the region at a slower pace.

Manarola

Believed to be the oldest of the five villages, Manarola is a postcard-perfect gem of pastel-colored houses cascading down to the sea. It is particularly renowned for its wine production, especially Sciacchetrà, a sweet dessert wine. At sunset, Manarola becomes one of the most photographed spots in Italy, with golden light illuminating the cliffs and sea. The cliffside walkways and scenic beauty make it unforgettable.

Riomaggiore

The southernmost village of Cinque Terre, Riomaggiore is full of vibrant energy, with brightly painted houses, bustling restaurants, and lively nightlife. It is the starting point of the famous Via dell’Amore (Path of Love), a romantic coastal trail leading to Manarola. With its steep streets, fishing traditions, and stunning views from the marina, Riomaggiore is both adventurous and charming.
